Terms of Service

Last updated: May 5, 2026

Clinical Brief is an educational literature-review tool only. It is not a clinical decision support tool and must not be used for patient care decisions.

Welcome to Clinical Brief ("we," "our," or "us"). Clinical Brief is developed and operated by Eddy Castro as an independent developer. By downloading, accessing, or using Clinical Brief (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. Description of the Service

Clinical Brief is a macOS application that lets users import published medical literature from supported sources such as text-selectable PDFs, DOIs, and PubMed identifiers, then generate structured, AI-assisted study briefs with source-linked evidence for education and literature review.

2. Educational Use Only

Clinical Brief is not a medical device, professional advisory service, or bedside clinical decision support product. AI-generated outputs may be incomplete, incorrect, or limited by the available source text. You are responsible for verifying all information against the original literature and your own professional judgment.

3. AI-Generated Content

Briefs are generated with the help of third-party AI services (currently OpenAI). We do not guarantee that AI-generated content is accurate, complete, current, or fit for any particular purpose. All AI-generated summaries are clearly presented as machine-generated output linked to source evidence.

You agree to review and verify outputs before relying on them for rounds, teaching, discussion, publication, or any other professional use. You acknowledge that AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, or misinterpretations of the source material.

4. No Patient Information

You agree not to upload, paste, or otherwise submit protected health information (PHI), medical records, or any data that identifies a real patient or other individual. The service is intended for published literature only.

5. User Data and Local Storage

The App does not require you to create an account to use its core features. Clinical Brief may store your imported papers, notes, highlights, generated briefs, and exports locally on your Mac. You are responsible for your local files and backups. If local files are deleted or lost, we may not be able to recover them.

6. Subscriptions, Billing, and Renewal

Clinical Brief offers free and paid features, including monthly and annual auto-renewing subscriptions. If you purchase a subscription:

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

8. Intellectual Property

We own or control the App, service design, branding, and software, except for third-party materials and your rights in content you lawfully provide. You retain all rights to the data and information you create using the App. These Terms do not transfer ownership of the App or service to you. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App and service are provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. AI-generated output is provided as-is and should not be treated as authoritative medical information.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or professional, clinical, or business decisions arising from use of the App or its generated output.

11. Termination and Updates

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service, or update these Terms, as the product evolves. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

12. Legal Compliance

You represent and warrant that (i) you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country; and (ii) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

13. Apple-Specific Terms

Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you where applicable. Your use of the App must also comply with the App Store terms that apply to your Apple platform account. Any claims relating to the App must be directed to us, not Apple.
